Episode 117: Navigating through Crisis and Trauma with Dr Diana Hendel and Dr Mark Goulston

Episode 117: Navigating through Crisis and Trauma with Dr Diana Hendel and Dr Mark Goulston

In this episode, we talk with co-authors Dr. Mark Goulston and Dr. Diana Hendel about their book Trauma to Triumph: A Roadmap for Leading Through Disruption (and Thriving on the Other Side).

Mark and Diana share how the pandemic traumatizes healthcare leaders, employees, and organizations, sending everyone into survival mode.

In their book, Mark and Diana said that if the crisis is not "named and claimed" as trauma and managed effectively, it's sure to linger on in the form of chronic stress and anxiety. And left unspoken and unaddressed, blame, shame, and guilt often permeate the organization's culture and erode its ability to thrive in the future.

We discussed how trauma affects the individuals and the organization's culture, how institutions can recover from the pandemic, and how healthcare leaders create stability amid uncertainty and traumatic events to become stronger and better on the other side.

At the close of the interview, Mark and Diana answered a couple of questions from our new Q&A process called the Missing Questions.
